The main idea is that the members should build their bases upside-down. The first rule was put in place for the safety of the Hermits , while the others were added by the members. Due to the quantity of piglins and ghasts spawning around the Upside-Down, Grian added this rule for the safety of the citizens, just in case anyone dies and loses their stuff due to this circumstance. There is a flipped switching station in the tunnel to the location similar to a toll booth, for the players to switch their skins.
GoodTimesWithScar is the only one to have broken one of the rules specifically Rule 1 , evident in his speech in Episode His punishment is Tunnel Duty for 30 Minutes, improving the tunnel with ice to allow boats to pass.
There are currently no other punishments. Grian has been inviting members to the Upside Down with creations made from grindstones, a storage container with the invitation, and a Grian head: which he has gotten by requesting MumboJumbo, ZedaphPlays and Iskall85 to kill him, often with little to no hesitation.
Arriving in what would become the Upside Down, Grian attempted to build a simple gold farm, then he started building and completing the exterior of the Upside Down Mansion. As he is the first to arrive in the Upside Down, it is unclear whether or not he is supposed to be pranked. BdoubleO was the first to be invited, with a delivery Grian appearing inside his main diorite house.
Later on in the episode , he was bombarded with more Delivery Grians filled with paper invitations instead. Grian then decided to stack up all the delivery Grians on top of each other to get his attention even more. The persistence eventually convinced him to join The Upside Down. Once he moved in with his simple, upside-down starter hut, Grian decided to prank him, as well as making it a new rule for future members, by asking him to sleep and adding a bed in his hut to convince him easier.
BdoubleO was unaware that he was in the nether making the prank: being killed by [Intentional Game Design] the bed exploding.
